Joan is a provider of ePaper room displays with touch functionality and battery power. By connecting through a shared calendar (Outlook, Google, or ICS), anny bookings appear automatically on the Joan display. With Joan, you can in anny:
  • Show bookings in real time on the Joan display outside the room
  • Make spontaneous bookings on the Joan display that sync back into anny
  • Show the occupancy status of your meeting rooms without a power connection or PoE
The integration is especially handy for smaller companies with up to 10 meeting rooms that prefer wireless displays with a long battery life.

Typical use cases

How the Joan connection works

Joan does not connect directly to anny, but through a shared calendar as a bridge. The typical sync path: anny ↔ Outlook (or Google Calendar) ↔ Joan anny syncs bookings in real time with the Outlook room calendar (Microsoft 365 Workspace integration). Joan reads the same calendar and shows the bookings on the display. Bookings made on the Joan display land in the Outlook calendar and sync from there into anny.
As an alternative to Outlook, you can also use Google Calendar or an ICS link. With ICS, no bookings are possible directly on the Joan display (read-only access).

Connect Joan

Prerequisites

Before you connect Joan with anny, make sure you have the following:
  • An active Joan subscription and access to the Joan Portal
  • A Joan display connected via Wi-Fi and registered in the portal
  • A Microsoft 365 room calendar (room mailbox) or Google Workspace room calendar for the meeting room you want
  • The Microsoft 365 Workspace integration in anny (for two-way sync between anny and Outlook)

Set up the connection

Once the connection is active, bookings from anny appear automatically on the Joan display, and bookings from the display sync back into anny.

Settings & options

Limitations

The Joan connection does not support:
  • A direct API connection between Joan and anny (always via a calendar as a bridge)
  • Check-in/check-out via the Joan display in anny (the check-in status is not synced)
  • Community permissions on the Joan display (anyone with access to the display can book)
  • With an ICS connection: no booking possible on the Joan display (read-only access)

Troubleshooting

The sync runs through Outlook. First check whether the booking appears in the Outlook room calendar. If it does: check in the Joan Portal whether the right calendar is linked to the right display. If not: check the Microsoft 365 integration in anny.
Check whether the booking appears in the Outlook calendar. If it does, the problem lies with the anny-Outlook sync. Make sure the Microsoft 365 integration in anny is active and the correct resource is linked.
The display has lost its Wi-Fi connection. Check Wi-Fi availability and restart the display if needed. In the Joan Portal, you can see the connection status under Devices.
