With the customer display, you stay at your desk in the admin area while your customers enter their details themselves. A Check-In terminal stands at the counter, facing the customer. When a form needs details or a signature from the customer, you send it to this display with one click. Whatever they type there shows up in the admin area right away. You review, fill in internal fields and confirm. No more handing your tablet across the counter or retyping details.

A visit is registered: reception sends the half-filled form to the display, the visitor completes and signs it, reception adds the badge number and finishes (admin area on the left, display on the right).

When should I use this?

  • At a staffed reception: Visitors enter their contact details and sign the visitor and safety policy themselves while you keep working in the admin area.
  • At check-in with paperwork: Customers complete documents that are signed at check-in and check-in fields directly on the display.
  • For new customers at the counter: You create a booking and let the customer enter their details on the display instead of typing them yourself.
  • Not suitable for: Self-service without staff. Use the regular modes of the Check-In terminal for that.

How does the customer display work?

You work in the admin area in the browser or in the anny Admin app on a tablet. The display is a tablet or screen running the anny Check-In app, paired as anny Check-In under Displays. The customer display works with two forms: The flow is the same in both cases:
  1. You open the form and enter what you already know.
  2. You click the cast icon next to the form title and choose the display.
  3. The form appears on the display, prefilled with your entries.
  4. The customer fills it in, confirms and signs documents on the display. Every entry appears on your side right away.
  5. You review the details, fill in the fields that are only visible to staff and confirm. Only then does anny save the check-in or the booking.

Prerequisites

The customer display is a Check-In terminal. Billing does not change: as before, one Check-In terminal is included in your plan.

Set up a display as a customer display

Every Check-In terminal can receive forms, even while it runs in a self-service mode. If the terminal should only show forms from the admin area, set the mode to Customer display.
1

Open the display

In the sidebar, go to Hardware → Displays and open your Check-In terminal.
2

Choose the mode

In the Settings section, under Mode, choose Customer display. The Resources section is hidden because the display does not run check-ins of its own.
3

Design the start screen (optional)

Under Start Screen and Customize design, adjust the welcome text, logo, background and colors. The forms on the display use the same design.
The display now shows its start screen and waits for forms. There is no self-service in this mode.

If the terminal runs in a self-service mode such as Personalized Registration & Check-In, you can still send forms to it. The form opens on top of the current screen. Afterwards, self-service continues.

Send a form to the display

1

Open the form

Open Complete check-in when you check in a booking, or Personalise when you create a booking. Enter what you already know, for example name, company and host.
2

Choose the display

Click the cast icon to the right of the form title and choose the display at the counter under Choose a display.
3

The customer fills in the form

The form appears on the display, prefilled with your entries. Next to the title you see the status: Waiting for the display… and then Customer is filling in. Every entry appears in your form right away.
4

Confirm and sign

The customer taps confirm on the display and signs open documents right on the screen. The display thanks them. On your side, the status is Confirmed by the customer and the signature is in the form.
5

Review and finish

Review the details, fill in the fields that are only visible to staff and click Check-In or Confirm. Only then does anny save the check-in or the customer details. The display returns to its start screen.

After confirmation: the signature has arrived in the admin area, you add the internal fields and confirm.

Fields are not marked red while the customer is filling in. anny shows missing required details only when you confirm.

Staff-only fields

Some fields should not be visible to customers, for example the number of a visitor badge or an access card. These are custom forms with Show in checkout switched off.
  • In the admin area, such fields have a crossed-out eye after their label. Hover over it to see Only visible to staff.
  • These fields never appear on the display. You fill them in after the customer has confirmed.
  • When you check in a booking in the admin area, Complete check-in also asks for such fields whose collection time is Later (at check-in), for example the access card number.

Set a default display

If you always use the same display, set it as the default:
  1. Click the cast icon in the form.
  2. Choose Set as default display.
From now on, the form offers Show on <display>, for example Show on Reception. One click is enough. The default display is saved for your user and shared with the anny Admin app on the tablet.

Stop sending

  • Click Stop in the cast menu or close the form. The display returns to its start screen right away.
  • A display shows one form at a time. If you send a new form to the same display, it replaces the old one.
  • A sent form that is not used for 30 minutes ends automatically.

Update the app

Older versions of the anny Check-In app cannot show forms. In the cast menu, such displays are greyed out with Update required. The display’s page under Hardware → Displays shows the same notice. How to update the app:
  • Android and iOS: Update the anny Check-In app in the Google Play Store or the App Store.
  • Windows terminals: Install the latest anny Check-In app installer. Contact anny support (support@anny.co) for the latest installer.
After the update, you can select the display in the cast menu again. You cannot refresh this yourself: the display reports its version the next time it connects. Restarting the app is enough.
If the display does not respond within a few seconds of sending, the admin area shows The display isn’t responding. The display is offline or still on an old version. Check its internet connection, restart the app and send the form again.

Troubleshooting

No Check-In terminal is paired yet. The menu explains the feature and links to Displays. Pair a terminal there as anny Check-In, see Set up a Check-In terminal.
Check that the display is switched on, the anny Check-In app is running and the device is connected to the internet. Until the display has opened the form, the admin area shows Waiting for the display…, and after a few seconds The display isn’t responding. Restart the app, stop sending and send the form again. If the display is marked Update required, update the app.
The display runs an older version of the anny Check-In app that cannot show forms. It is marked Update required. Update the app and restart it.
Show in checkout is switched off for this custom form. The field is only visible to staff and you fill it in in the admin area. If the customer should fill it in, switch Show in checkout on.
Sending ended: someone clicked Stop, closed the form or sent another form to the same display. Sending also ends after 30 minutes without use.
