Google Calendar is Google’s calendar service. With the integration, you connect a resource in anny with a calendar of your personal Google account and keep both sides in sync automatically (two-way synchronization). With Google Calendar you can in anny:
  • Automatically create your resource’s bookings as appointments in your Google Calendar
  • Import appointments from your Google Calendar into anny as blockers or bookings and avoid double bookings
  • Optionally have a Google Meet created automatically for bookings and invite the customer
The integration is especially useful when you or your team members keep personal calendars and a resource’s availability should take both into account, for example for consultation appointments, coaching sessions or person-bound rooms. You find a comparison of all calendar integrations in the overview article Calendar Integrations.
Calendar synchronization must be included in your anny plan, otherwise the Connect Google Calendar button stays grayed out.

Typical use cases

How the Google Calendar connection works

The connection is established through signing in with your Google account (Sign in with Google). anny gets access to your calendar list (read only) and to the appointments of the calendars (read and write). anny does not read other Google data such as emails or contacts. If you revoke access in your Google account, synchronization stops: the integration shows a warning symbol and offers Reauthorize. Synchronization runs in both directions and in real time: anny syncs the period from today up to around 13 months into the future; it extends automatically every month. If a booking is canceled or declined in anny, anny deletes the associated appointment. Conversely, if an appointment is deleted in Google, anny removes the blocker or cancels the booking created from it. Every sync action is documented in the booking’s activity log, and in the booking details the Calendar synchronization section shows the account, calendar and origin of the link.

Connecting Google Calendar

Requirements

Before you connect Google Calendar, make sure you have the following:
  • A Google account with access to the desired calendar (for other people’s calendars you need write access, and only those appear in the selection)
  • Editing rights for the resource in your anny account
  • An anny plan that includes calendar synchronization
  • The resource is not already connected via the Google Workspace integration

Setting up the connection

1

Start the setup

Open Resources from the menu bar, select your resource and go to the Integrations tab. In the Personal calendar integrations section, click Connect Google Calendar.
2

Authorize

Click Sign in with Google, select your Google account and confirm the access. After a successful sign-in, anny shows “Successfully authenticated”.
3

Choose a calendar

In the Calendar field, choose the calendar to sync with the resource. Your main calendar is preselected. You can also create your own sub-calendar in your Google account just for this integration.
4

Adjust settings and start

Adjust the settings (see below) and click Start sync.
Once the integration is active, anny first imports all future appointments and bookings. After that, all changes are synced in real time.
Create your own sub-calendar in your Google account for the integration. This keeps synced bookings cleanly separated from your private appointments.

Settings & options

A connection on a parent resource automatically applies to the bookings of its child resources. You do not need to connect each child resource individually.

Limitations

The Google Calendar integration does not support:
  • Past appointments: synchronization runs only from today, up to around 13 months into the future. Past entries are never imported.
  • Series as a whole: series appointments are synced as individual appointments or individual bookings, without linking the series.
  • Invitation emails from Google: anny creates appointments without Google notifications. Guests are only added when Add Google Meet to the appointment is active.
  • Changing the calendar afterwards: the calendar is only chosen during setup. For a different calendar, delete the connection and set it up again.
  • Parallel operation with Google Workspace: a resource already connected via the Google Workspace integration cannot additionally be connected with a personal Google Calendar.
  • Editing other people’s appointments: if you are only invited to an imported appointment (not the organizer), the resulting booking in anny is read-only.

Disconnecting

When you deactivate the integration, synchronization stops immediately in both directions. Already synced appointments, bookings and blockers remain. When deleting, anny removes the created synchronizations instead: appointments created by anny are deleted from your Google Calendar, and bookings and blockers created from appointments are removed from anny. You choose between Only future synchronizations and All synchronizations (including past ones).
You can do both in your resource settings under Integrations: deactivate via the toggle in the integration row, delete via the three dotsDelete.

FAQ

Yes. You can create several connections, e.g. the calendars of several team members. Only the exact same combination of account and calendar cannot be connected twice per resource.
Appointments marked as private or confidential in Google are always imported by anny anonymized with the title “Not available”. This applies regardless of the Title of bookings in anny setting.
Only when Add Google Meet to the appointment is active: anny then adds the booking’s customer and participants as guests. Google does not send invitation emails. Conversely, anny takes over the guests of an appointment along with their acceptance or decline as booking participants, when appointments are synced as bookings.
Yes. Turn off Create appointments as blockers and choose a Default service for bookings. New appointments are then created as confirmed bookings, with anny determining the customer from the appointment organizer. Existing blockers are converted with Convert existing blockers to bookings.
In the booking details, the Calendar synchronization section shows the connected account, the calendar and whether the booking came from an appointment or the appointment from the booking. In addition, the activity log records every creation, change and deletion by the integration.

Troubleshooting

Most common cause: the appointment has the status “Available” in Google and the Sync all events setting is off. Also check whether the appointment is in the future and within the next roughly 13 months, whether the correct calendar is connected and whether the integration is active (toggle in the integration row).
A connection with the same account and calendar already exists for this resource, or the resource is connected via the Google Workspace integration. Remove one of the two connections and activate again afterwards.
The cause is usually revoked Google access, a calendar that is no longer reachable or missing write access. Click Reauthorize in the integration row and sign in again. For other people’s calendars, check whether your account still has write access, and then reactivate the integration. On activation, anny automatically syncs all data anew.
The booking comes from an appointment where the connected account is only invited. Such bookings are read-only in anny. The organizer makes changes in the Google Calendar, and anny takes them over automatically.
