# Getting Started – Ticketing & Events (Check-In)

> Use QR code tickets for entry at events, workshops and courses with automatic attendance control.

With this guide, you set up a ticket-based check-in for events, workshops or courses. In the end, participants receive a QR code ticket at booking that is scanned at entry, and you always have an overview of attendance.

## Thinking ticketing and events the anny way

With ticketing, anny maps the entry process digitally. The central principle: every **event** or **course** is a **resource** with limited capacity, every ticket sold a **booking** with a QR code, and the **Check-In terminal** at entry checks validity.

| anny concept | Meaning in ticketing |
| --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Resource              | A venue, room or area (e.g. "Hall A")                                 |
| Booking option | A ticket type (e.g. "Standard ticket", "VIP ticket", "Workshop seat") |
| Multiple availability | Maximum participant capacity |
| QR code ticket | Confirmation with a scan code that participants receive at booking |
| Check-In app | Terminal or handheld scanner at entry |

Participants book through the **booking area** (booking page, widget or app). You manage everything in the **admin area** (resources, bookings, displays, occupancy).

## Step-by-step setup

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a resource">
    Open **Resources** and create a resource for the venue (e.g. "Hall A" or "Workshop room"). Under **Availability**, set it to **Multiple availability** and set the number to the maximum participant capacity. Under **Check-In**, enable check-in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a booking option">
    Create one or more booking options as ticket types (e.g. "Standard ticket" with a fixed duration by schedule). Configure the price (free or paid) and set **Automatically accept all bookings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure forms for participant data (optional)">
    If you want to ask for participant data only at entry (e.g. dietary preferences for the workshop catering), create a [custom form](/en/custom-forms) and set the query time to **Later (at check-in)**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up the terminal">
    Set up a Check-In terminal according to [Set Up a Check-In Terminal](/en/check-in-setup). Choose the mode **Check-In**. For events with free entry and walk-in visitors, alternatively: **Personalized registration and Check-In**, so participants can also register spontaneously on-site.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the check-in period">
    Under **Resource** > **Check-In**, configure the **check-in period** (e.g. from 30 minutes before the event start). This way entry opens only shortly before the event.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test">
    Create a test booking, check whether the QR code ticket is sent by email, and scan it at the terminal. Check whether the check-in is confirmed and the capacity is reduced correctly.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  For events with different ticket categories (e.g. Standard and VIP), create separate booking options with different prices or quotas on the same resource.
</Tip>
